Want to stay in touch with friends and family combining your HDTV with cutting technology? This gadget called Tely Labs telyHD will give you the capability of video calling on your HDTV via Skype.

TelyHD is a bit pricey, however, it could save you on cell phone bills in the long run. Just consider this — you could be talking to business associates or clients via Skype. Setup is that easy and the quality is outstanding. Another bonus is that you get no monthly fees with this package.

Here is what you need to get started: a broadband connection and an HDTV port, which most HDTV’s are already equipped with. Everything else is included in the box. Well, except for the physical hugs. But at least you can see and hear your guests like never before, in HDTV of course.

For just over 200 dollars, you could become part of a technological revolution. No need to rush out and hunt for webcams, microphones, and other supplies to get the job done. This Skype application uses Android for the operating system.

Again, basically all you need is broadband, a nice HDTV, and Skype. If you’re somewhat familiar with Skype you are one step ahead of the curve.

Video calling has never been so accessible. Share those special moments using telyHD . You’ll be happy that you did.

The National Radio Quiet Zone

Entrenched in the state West Virginia lies Pendleton County. As of 2000, the population was 8,196. The county has a total area of 698 square miles.

Pendleton County was pro-Confederate during the American Civil War. The county became part of West Virginia even though the residents didn’t want it forced upon them.

In 1758, near 60 settlers were massacred by Shawnee and Delaware native Americans. It was the attack of Fort Seybert, which is located in Pendleton County.

There is a remote sight in Pendleton County that is located near a small, quaint town of Franklin. It’s called Sugar Grove, or commonly called “the Grove”. The cost of living is low and the place is very laid back. The Grove is about an hour and a half drive from Harrisonburg, Virginia.

Hidden in the mountains of Sugar Grove there is the largest “eye” or “ear” if you prefer, on the east coast, where the NSA has set up shop. It is operated by the U.S. Navy and the US Air Force.

The location is part of an area called the U.S. National Radio Quiet Zone [NRQZ].

The task of the station in 1991 became “to maintain and operate an ECHELON site” [Cyber-rights.org].

On December 29, 2005, Navy Security Group Activity Command was disestablished. Navy Information Operations Command, Sugar Grove was established as part of the integration of NAVSECGRU functions into Naval Network Warfare Command. The SECGRU Service Cryptologic element responsibilities have been performed by the Information Operations Directorate of NETWARCOM ever since [Source: NIOC].

The NSA has the capability to scan e-mails, faxes, instant messages, web searches, text messaging, and phone calls, including cell phones and landlines. Originally designed to spy on other countries during the Cold War, it is believed that the U.S. government is now spying, or has the option to do it, on all American citizens.

The USA PATRIOT Act was enacted into legislation by George W. Bush during his presidency on October 26, 2001. This controversial act reduced restrictions on law enforcement agencies’ ability to search telephone, e-mail communications, medical, financial, and other records.

Just before the midnight deadline on May 26, 2011, President Barack Obama signed a 4-year extension of three key provisions in the USA Patriot Act. Opponents argue that this act is unconstitutional.

NATIONAL RADIO QUIET ZONE COORDINATION REQUIREMENT

* Amateur Radio — NRQZ coordination is required for all new or modifed, permanent, fixed, licensed transmitters inside the NRQZ, as specified for federal transmitters by NTIA manual section 8.3.9 and for non-federal transmitters by the FCC in 47 CFR section 1.924. [NRAO]

Self-Checkout Lanes May Be Dying But Social Media Is Thriving

The self-checkout lane may be dying for good. Albertsons, LLC has announced that it’s going to get rid of all of its self-checkout lanes. According to the MSNBC article, other major food chains may follow suit behind it.

Clarification: There are actually two different companies with similar names. Here is the distinction. Albertsons, LLC owns and operates 217 stores; it will close the self-checkout lanes.

However, Supervalu Albertsons which owns 460 stores will continue to provide self-checkout lanes (Chain Store Age).

This is not a big shock if you stop to think about it. What is the problem with self-checkout lanes?

Social media might just give us the answer. People are gregarious creatures by nature. People want to experience things together. Experiencing things together enriches life. Oh, and that thing called customer service…

This is the reason why social media has came such a long way and the odds are great that it will be around for a long time, if not permanently. People want good information, but more importantly people want to share that information. This is why social media is red hot and the self-checkout lane is not.

The dying self-checkout lane should be a big hint to websites, bloggers, and businesses. Getting your brand or product established is part of the component, but really listening to the needs of your customer is the most important factor to success. Success depends on listening more than anything else. It’s about the feedback.

When a business (or blog) loses the sight of this factor, the business runs the risk of losing customers in a big way. It’s taken the big food chain stores a decade to figure this out. Today’s business owners should step aside and take notice of this.

Internet surfers want interaction. Add a badge, suggestion box, a poll, forum, etc. The comment section is of utmost importance. Some readers may not want to leave comments while others do. Offer your readers a space to leave comments. Reply to those comments when plausible. Add social media to your page.

Customers may have forgotten something in the store, want a price check, or see an item that catches their eye. Machines do not take the place of human interaction. That’s a fact.

Whatever you do, don’t leave your customers stranded in the self-checkout lane. Read, respond, engage, and find out what your customers are really interested in. Suggest an event, a product, or a tip that might brighten someone’s day. You want your customers to stay in the store, and not leave as quickly as they can.

And make sure you tell your customers or readers that you appreciate their business very much. That’s the missing link in the busy corporate world.

You are social media friendly and not the dying self-checkout lane.

Thank you very much for reading this post and please do come back and consider leaving a comment, subscribing to the feed, or tweeting the post. Feel at home.

It drives. It flies. It’s here. It’s driven to fly. The time has come to get in your car and fly in the air!

It’s no longer just a dream or a fantasy. The flying car has finally arrived in the 21st century. It’s more like a plane that drives actually. The Transition is transportation that you can park in your garage. Terrafugia is making this a reality.

Co-founder Anna Mracek Dietrich discusses the making and marketing of the famous Transition with Craig Fuller, President and CEO of AOPA.

The Transition will carry a load of approximately 460 pounds and will travel just under 500 miles. The ceiling to fly will be anywhere from 12,000 ft. to 14, 000 ft. The Transition could reach production by the end of 2012.

The “Flying Car” has now been unveiled to the world and it uses super unleaded gas instead of aviation fuel.

Demonstration At Menwith Hill

In the United States it’s called Independence Day. On July 4, 1776, America declared independence from Great Britain. In 1938, it became a paid holiday.

Ironically, in a strange twist of fate it is now the Brits who are demanding for Independence Day from the U.S. On July 4 of every year, people demonstrate at Menwith Hill.

It all starts in the top secret U.S. military base, Menwith Hill, which is located in the U.K.’s Yorkshire Dales.

Menwith Hill is a Royal Air Force station near Harrogate, North Yorkshire. It provides intelligence to the United Kingdom and the United States of America. Menwith Hill Station was opened on 545 acres (2.21 km2) of land acquired in 1954. Some of the land is leased to the United States.

The U.S. base symbolizes the growing discontent that some Brits feel toward a dominant U.S. There are 32 satellite dishes (adding number 33) which are housed inside of huge golf ball like structures. They allow the operators to eavesdrop on telephone calls, faxes, and emails from around the world.

The National Security Agency took control of the sight in 1966.

Videochat on Facebook May Be Around The Corner

Some of us were scratching our heads when Microsoft gave $8.5 billion for Skype a short time ago. The skepticism set in; why would Microsoft spend so much on a VoIP company? It was a gamble. What was Microsoft going to do with Skype? The tech crowd suspected months ago that Facebook and Skype would team up.

The picture is getting clearer now since Facebook has announced something big is about to happen. The tech experts are spreading the buzz about Skype videochat coming to Facebook.

The mechanics of the deal is not quite clear yet, if it does happen.

The impact of Facebook and Skype teaming up may be broader and far more reaching than imagined. I personally think the videochat is going to explode as time passes by. And why shouldn’t it? Why chat when you can talk to each other via video? Convenience is the keyword here.

I’d been thinking to myself for some time, that Facebook could face some really stiff competition if another bright mind came along and designed something similar to Facebook, but would also allow you to talk face-to-face via video. Mark Zuckerberg may have considered the same possibility.

Skype has already integrated with Facebook somewhat. You can see if your Facebook friends are online from Skype and you can send direct messages from Skype to Facebook. You can chat with Facebook friends on Skype. You can call Facebook friends. The options are many since the Skype upgrade.

Videochat may not hit it big on Facebook right away. Users may be reluctant and shy away from it at first. But I’m convinced if the integration becomes successful and fully functional, the videochat may be the telephony of the future. I don’t envision it any other way. Even if you give users the option of calling via audio while browsing on the Facebook page, this too will have an impact.

Look into the future. You could videochat with 20, 40, or 100 Facebook friends at the same time! This may sound ridiculous, but if you bring fiber optics into the equation the technology is available.

If you’re not aware of it, Facebook is coming to television and it’s going to happen soon. Hybridization of television and computing is going to be a gamechanger. Social networking is coming to primetime.

Not only can you Facebook your friends while watching TV, you could message them with Skype while mobile. Or you could watch TV while mobile, or you could Skype friends while watching TV. What about videochat coming to Twitter?

Can police search your digital possessions? Such as a personal computer, cell phone, laptop, etc. Just what are your rights when the police come knocking on your door?

DIGITAL CITIZEN TIPS

Don’t consent to a search
* Just say no. Tell the police to come back with a search warrant.
* If you voluntarily agree to let the police search, they won’t legally need a search warrant. They will be able to search your house, computer, cell phones, etc.

Always ask to see a search warrant
* If the police do in fact have a search warrant you have a right to see it.
* Make sure the police only search the area(s) where the warrant allows them to do so. They are not permitted to search other areas.

You do have the right to remain silent
* You don’t have to say a word to the police or help them while they are searching.
* You don’t have to give your encryption keys or passwords to the police.
* If you do decide to talk to the police, you have to tell the truth. Lying can be held against you.
* Once police are allowed to search your home you can not interfere in any way.

Talk to a lawyer
* Always get a lawyer first, if the situation permits you to do so. Get a lawyer when police want to talk to you, or when police want to search your home, business, or any electronic device.
* A lawyer is best suited to deal with the police. The lawyer may be able to retrieve your electronic device that the police got from you. Always get a lawyer.
