Criticism For Obama’s Policies Is Quickly Rising
It’s only in America folks where one can be highly exalted during the presidential inauguration early in the year, only to discover that later your popularity has completely tanked! Barack Obama was hailed as the hope president that would change everything. This perception would not be long-lasting, unfortunately for those that support him.
Those tears of joy back in January of 2009 have transformed into mounting frustration, and some might even say growing anger. The statement that Obama was left with a gruesome economy may have once had legs, but there is strong evidence pointing to the fact that voters are quickly losing their patience.
One of Obama’s strong points some might argue was his health care reform bill. And just recently, Howard Dean said that the health care bill should be killed. “This is a bigger bailout for the insurance industry than AIG”, Dean told ABC’s George Stephanopoulos. “This is an insurance company’s dream, this bill,” Dean continued. (ABC News)
Anderson Cooper pointed out on his AC360 program on December 17, 2009, that Obama may have lied to the public, and may have failed to keep his campaign promises. Here is a transcript from CBS News that further proves his point:
On the campaign trail, Obama is quoted as saying: “We’ll negotiate with the drug companies for the cheapest available price on drugs.”
Trying to pass this watered down health care bill, that even his party won’t support, has proven that Obama has cut deals with pharmaceutical and insurance companies. This is just the opposite scenario that he described would happen if he became president. The president is playing politics with the American people, and they are finally holding him accountable.
Gallup has the president’s approval rating at 47% for December of 2009. In August of 2009, Rasmussen had reported that Obama’s ratings were slipping (YouTube). Rasmussen said voter anger has been out there because of many issues. Voters are overwhelmingly opposed to: bailouts, the GM/Chrysler takeover, the stimulus package, cash for clunkers program, etc. And now it’s the health care plan that is front and center in the debates.
What has really hurt the president is the breaking away from the middle; independents that were previously supportive are now extremely critical of his policies. Independents could account for over one-third of the voters in America. It is highly likely that these trends will continue.
It is the handling of the economy that the American people are most discontented with. Obama and his administration have failed to realize this.
The moment can be compared to a moment in Bush’s presidency – the infamous New Orleans Flyover. Because that is what it feels like to struggling Americans, just another Flyover.
