Let’s Not Call It “War On Terror” Anymore

Has the war budget increased substantially in recent years? Has the U.S turned into a “war machine”? The United States was very reluctant to be involved in World War I. World War II left the U.S. with no choice.

Is the government deceiving the public about war appropriations? Is the government actually spending your public service money on the “global war on terror” theme again? Is the Obama Doctrine more of the same as the Bush Doctrine? Who’s playing the role of Donald Rumsfield now?

The War Resisters League has designed a Federal Pie Chart  which attempts to illustrate federal funding. According to this chart, military expenditures could have surpassed non-military spending. Is this true?

The Taliban fight because they have no jobs. What does this say about America?

The estimated amount spent on the Iraq war — $607,300,000,000. Many critics around the world would argue that this so called war was an absolute disaster. But Americans still owe the bill.

What about Afghanistan? Obama’s major campaign theme was about the incompetency behind the Iraq war. And now he’s promoting more bloodshed, and adding the burden to the American public. Will the outcome be worth the price? Is this even going to be evaluated, or is it full steam ahead just like the Bush Doctrine? European answer — no, no, and no.

Along with the financial costs which the U.S. can’t really afford, what about the moral responsibility? After the deaths of thousands of innocent Iraq citizens, shouldn’t Afghan lives be considered? Just how many innocent lives will be shed in targeting the enemy? Is there a winning strategy? Or, “bomb them again” and see what happens? Hasn’t Russia already tried Afghanistan?

Is the military solution really a solution? This solution is almost certain to fail.

Pssst! Let’s not call it “War On Terror” anymore. Let’s call it “Struggle Against Violent Extremism” or “Overseas Contingency Operation”. The world will never figure this one out …
