EchoLink Consejos para solucionar problemas
Troubleshooting EchoLink can be a very frustrating game. Here are a few tips that especially apply to Windows XP, using a broadband connection.
Port/Firewall Problems:
Go to EchoLink — Tools — Firewall/Router Test
If it says Pass, you are okay with ports. This is not the problem. Most of the time this usually is the problem. Remember–even after you have configured the port settings, the ports can come undone and have to be set again.
Timeout. This is usually a port problem. If you cannot connect to the EchoLink Test Server or any other operator, it is highly likely that you do not have the port settings right, or the firewall setting on your computer isn’t set right.
Get on EchoLink, then go to Tools. At the bottom of the Tools bar, you will see the Firewall/Router Test. This will tell if you have configured something wrong. Try this first before you do anything else, this should get you results.
Another great idea: Download the EchoLink Troubleshooter . Download this to your computer, in the My Documents Folder for example. Then run it after it is downloaded. This is a great tool to find your problem!
If a port setting isn’t right, you must go to the service page of your Internet Service Provider. If you’re not familiar with this, call your ISP and they will walk you through.
Setup — Portforwarding — Portforwarding Configuration –
This port is supposed to be the magic one that works.
Enable Port: 57972
Protocol: UDP and TCP
If the port 57972 works, that’s good. But, just in case there is trouble, enable these ports. These ports use to be the main ones until 57972 was suggested. If you don’t want anymore headaches, enable these ports also.
Enable Ports: 5198 and 5199
Protocol: UDP on both ports. Enable TCP on both ports.
Firewall Settings:
The firewall must be set on low regarding your Internet Service Provider settings. If your ports are working and you still have trouble, this could be the culprit.
Also make sure this has been done. Go to Control Panel. Then click on Windows Firewall. Then click on Exception. Make sure you do checkmark it where it says EchoLink; this will allow it to work.
Router Problems
Resolved soon…
Still Not Working:
EchoLink — Tools — Link Setup Wizard
If you are using an Interface in Sysop Mode, make sure Digital Mode Interface is checked (RIGblaster or similar), if this is the type of interface you are using. If this is not checked, EchoLink will not work.
Audio Trouble – Cannot Hear:
EchoLink — Tools – Adjust Sound Device — Playback
Make sure nothing is muted (and the volume is turned up). If it is checked, uncheck it. Also, make sure the microphone is not muted. The microphone mysteriously mutes itself sometimes.
Important New Tip: These settings will pertain to you if Realtek is your audio manager. First click on the Mixer tab. Under Realtek HD audio input, mute the stereo mix. In the 3D Audio Demo tab, select Manual – Vertical under Moving Path. Under the microphone settings, mute the Noise Supression and Acoustic Echo Cancellation.
Realtek Analog: (Automatically detects line in and line out.)
Realtek Connector Settings: Be sure to checkmark Mute Rear Panel Output. ***
Reminder: Go to Tools> Setup> Audio. Be sure to check or tick these 2 items: Check Auto Sample Rate Compensation, 300 Hz TX High-Pass Filter. This really does help.
Another reminder. Go to Tools> Link Setup Wizard. Go through this from time to time. Especially after you have not used EchoLink in a long time. This function seems to reactivate the system.
If you are using an interface, make sure the volume is turned up on your ham radio. Many times the volume is turned down and forgotten about.
Make sure the speakers are connected right. Make sure the interface connections are hooked up right. It is a common problem to cross the line in/line out wires into the jacks, on the back of the computer, concerning interface users.

Still No Audio:
Make sure you have the right Sound Card. This is usually not a problem. Try the EchoLink Troubleshooter. A link is posted above to download this.

2Could be a firewall issue on your ISP page, but I’ve also had to reset the ports, sometimes they will come undone. Would like to know the outcome. Thanks for the post. 73 de KI4KQD

4Hello N4LIO! I’m going to make a guess here; I’ll bet it has to do with your Vonage. I think I’ve heard other hams comment that Vonage is not friendly with EchoLink. This system may not allow EchoLink to pass through. 73 de KI4KQD.

7Most are normally posted, but not always, and there is often confusion about the details. Be nice if there was a page about EchoLink nets online. Good point. de KI4KQD

12ok echolink sleuth’s, can you figure this out????
Echolink troubleshooting
As of 6/18/11 1134
Setup:
• Echolink v2.0.908 on both systems
• Windows XP on both systems
• Ross using Signalink USB interface and Kenwood TM731a dual band radio
• Dick using MFJ 1275 interface on Kenwood TR-7950 radio
Problem:
Remote users can’t talk out over internet node-to-node (Dick’s node to Ross’ node, or vice-versa) from remote user HT’s. Dick’s HT is heard over the internet from his node to Ross’ node when he tries to enter DTMF tones – Ross’ node radio keys up. We are not yet sure if the DTMF codes are actually being heard over Ross’ node radio, but he does key up Ross’ node. However, when Dick tries to speak over Echolink using his HT connected to his node, there is no audio detected at Ross’ node, and Ross’ node radio does not key up.
We think we have eliminated:
• Routers/modems – switched routers at Ross’ – no help
• Node radios – they receive and transmit as standalone
• Computers – problem exists on 3 different computers; 2 at Ross’, 1 at Dick’s
• Cabling – Ross’ side is Signalink OEM. Dick’s side keys his node transmitter
• Interfaces – Signalink verified to work as designed by discussion with tech. MFJ 1275 previously worked on another system
• Ports – ports tests pass on PFportchecker program and echolink firewall test passes. (echolink troubleshooter program alternately fails UDP 5198 or 5199 receive). Switched dsl modems/routers and confirmed setups. Ran them in DMZ mode also – no help. Proof: Dick can talk from his echolink computer over the internet to Ross’ node with no problem. If the ports were the problem, this would not be possible.
• Sysop settings – for the most part (see below)
What works:
• Dicks computer to over echolink to Ross’ node and out Ross’ frequency
• Dicks HT DTMF tones through Dick’s node over internet to Ross’ node keys Ross’ node transmitter
What doesn’t work:
• Dick’s HT spoken audio through Dick’s node to Ross’ node does NOT key Ross’ node radio
Possible causes:
• Sysop settings – RCV control
• Other echolink setup settings
Questions:
• Does Dick’s HT spoken audio through Dick’s node to Ross’ node appear on to be received on Ross’ echolink computer?
• Can Dick hear his HT audio on his echolink computer?
• Are Dick’s DTMF tones being heard on Ross’ node radio?
