Bad DSL Modem

Signs Of A Bad DSL Modem:
1.  The DSL light keeps blinking.
2.  Signal keeps dropping.
3.  Internet connection speed is not constant.
4.  Cannot get a signal at all.
5.  While talking on the phone, you hear a series of beep beep (in twos).
6.  Modems can go completely dead.
7.  Believe it or not, a quick power surge can kill a modem! ALWAYS POWER OFF BEFORE A STORM .
    
Compare Modems
If you are not sure if you have a bad modem, ask your neighbor what the conditions are usually like with their DSL modem and connection. Run a broadband speed test on their computer and compare it to your speed. The two speeds do not have to be the same; but your speed should be close. If yours is much slower and you are on the same package, you have a problem.

If your neighbor has the same modem, try theirs.This will tell you if your modem is bad. Better yet, it would be a great idea to keep a spare modem on hand. It is good to know if your modem is bad before you call your internet provider. Modems are expensive, and they may be hesitant to give you one.
